Add a new school year¶
You do this once a year. After that, the new year appears in every dropdown that needs it.
Where: the Academic Years list, reached under Destinations, Schedules, or Faculty Members in the left menu. All three open the same screen, so use whichever you are near.
Steps¶
- Go to the Academic Years screen (link above).
- In the Name box, type the year in the existing format:
2028-2029. - Leave Slug (the web-address part, filled in automatically) and Description blank.
- Click Add New Academic Year.
That is it. The year is now available in the Academic Year dropdown on Destinations, Schedules, Faculty Members, and Newsletters, and in the Current and Future Academic Year dropdowns on the Academy records.
Use the same format every time
Four digits, a hyphen, four digits, no spaces: 2028-2029. The year is printed on the website exactly as typed, so 2028 - 2029 with spaces would look inconsistent on the page.
You need the right account
Adding a year needs an Editor or Administrator account. If the "Add New" box is missing, that is why. Check your role under Users, or ask Michael.
This is Step 4 of the bigger year-end rollover, but you can also do it on its own any time a future year is missing from a dropdown.
After you add the year¶
The year label does nothing on its own. Next you create the posts for it, and two things are easy to miss:
- Copying last year's post is fine, but follow the After you copy a post checklist before publishing.
- The headings on each academy page do not update themselves. Set them under Section Display > Academic Year Headings (Step 5 of the year-end rollover).
