World Class Academy Website Handbook¶
The front door to how the WCA website works. If you are new, or you have a question about adding or editing anything on the site, start here, then jump to the guide you need from the sidebar or the search box.
How the website is built¶
You do not edit the website by dragging things around a page. You fill in forms in the WordPress admin, and the site assembles the pages for you.
- Log in at worldclassacademy.com/wp-admin.
- Everything you manage is a record: an Academy, a Destination, a Schedule, a Faculty Member, a Course, an FAQ, or a Job Listing. Each has its own list in the left menu.
- You open a record, fill in its labeled boxes, and click Update. The academy pages assemble themselves from those records.
One hard rule
If you ever see a button called Edit with Bricks, do not click it. That is the page builder, and it is easy to break. Nothing in this handbook needs it.
The mental model¶
Think of it like addressed mail. Each Destination, Schedule, and Faculty Member is an envelope with an address on it (which academy, which quarter, which year). The academy page is a mailbox that automatically gathers every envelope addressed to it. You never sort the mail into the box by hand: you write the right address, and each item lands in the right place on its own.
Those three parts of the address are the whole game, and they are explained in The three rules. Read that page once and most of the site stops being mysterious.
Where to go next¶
- The three rules — the ideas that explain almost everything.
- Destinations and Schedules — the day-to-day content you will add most.
- Destinations & Schedules — how the pair works together.
- Faculty Members — teacher and staff profiles.
- Getting help — who to contact and how.
