Troubleshooting

The common "why isn't this working" cases, in the order worth checking them.

The heading shows the wrong year

The heading year is set separately from the content (Rule 3). Go to Academies → that academy → Section Display tab → Academic Year Headings and set Current Academic Year and Future Academic Year. Each academy is set on its own. Headings do not follow the content, even after you move items to a new year. Full steps: Fix the year shown in a heading.

Last year's schedule shows next to this year's

The academy page shows eight schedule quarters instead of four. The Schedule Type on last year's schedules was not switched. Destination Type and Schedule Type are two separate switches, and flipping the destinations does not flip the schedules. Open each of last year's schedules and set Schedule Type to Past. See Two switches.

A destination card shows in the wrong order

A copied destination keeps the dates of the post it was copied from, and wrong dates can push its card to the top of the page. Open the destination and check Start Date and End Date, and every row in the Event list. See After you copy a post.

A destination or schedule is not showing up

Check these in order:

  1. Is it Published? Drafts do not appear.
  2. Is Destination Type or Schedule Type right? Past never shows. If it should be visible, set Current or Future.
  3. Are Academy, Quarter, and Academic Year all filled in and correct? The page finds items by this combination. One wrong dropdown and it looks in the wrong place.
  4. Is the section switched on? Academies → that academy → Section Display tab.

The destination shows but the schedule does not (or the reverse)

Their labels are out of step. Open both and confirm Academy, Quarter, and Academic Year match exactly, and that both have the same Past/Current/Future setting. See How destinations and schedules pair.

The year I need is not in the dropdown

Create it once, then it appears everywhere.

The whole section has vanished from the page

Either the Section Display toggle is off, or there are no items matching that section. A section with nothing in it hides itself automatically. Check Academies → that academy → Section Display tab first.

A photo is cropping badly

Check which image it is first: the Background Images tab has six banner images, and only four of them have a position field (Hero Main, Hero Destinations & Schedule, Hero Faculty, Hero Coaching & Equipment). The two Schedule Background images have no position field. Try center top on the matching position field to keep heads in frame, or replace the photo with a better-cropped one for the two fields that have no position control. Landscape photos crop better than portrait ones. See Text and photos.

I changed something and the page looks the same

Hard refresh: Cmd+Shift+R on Mac, Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows. The site caches pages for speed. If it still looks the same after a couple of minutes, tell Michael.

A form notification went to the wrong person

The forms email group aliases, so the fix is almost always in Google Admin group membership, not the form. See Email routing.

I think I broke something

Stop and tell Michael. Do not try to undo it by deleting things. WordPress keeps revisions of most content, so it is usually recoverable as long as nothing gets deleted on top of it. See Never do these and Getting help.

A faculty member is missing from their academy page

Open their profile in Faculty Members and check three things:

  1. Faculty Status (bottom of the Staff Information box) is Current. Previous profiles are hidden on purpose.
  2. Academy is set to the right program.
  3. The profile is Published, not a Draft.

If all three are right and they still don't show, tell Michael.
