Never do these¶
A short list of things that break the site in ways that are hard to undo. Everything in this handbook is designed so that normal editing is safe. These are the exceptions.
Never delete or trash a Destination, Schedule, or Faculty Member
Set a Destination or Schedule to Past instead, and a Faculty Member to Previous (see Faculty Members), or ask Michael. Trashing a Faculty Member also loses our record of who has worked at WCA. Deleting breaks the connections between destinations and schedules, and those are not easy to rebuild. This is the single most important rule. See Rule 1.
Never click \"Edit with Bricks\"
That is the page builder. It controls the layout of the whole page and it is easy to break something without noticing. Every task in this handbook is done through normal forms.
Never rename or delete anything in the Academic Years, Quarters, or Academies label lists
Those labels connect items to pages. Renaming one can detach content across the whole site. Adding a new one is fine.
Never change the Slug or Permalink of a published page
The Slug and Permalink are the web-address part of a page. Changing them on a page that is already published breaks links people have already shared and hurts search results. If a published page genuinely needs a new address, ask Michael to set up a redirect first.
The one exception is a copy you have not published yet. A copy starts with a slug based on the original, so fixing it before you publish is correct and safe. See After you copy a post.
Do not use the big main content area on Academy pages
Academy page content lives in the labeled fields further down. Text typed in the main area will not appear. (Courses are the exception; they do use the main editor.)
If you are unsure whether something is safe, it almost certainly is, as long as it is not on this list. When in doubt, ask first. Asking is always cheaper than undoing.
